Every year on June 19, we celebrate the end of slavery here in the U.S. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last group of people enslaved in the southern U.S. were informed of their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation. Local 3 wishes all our members a Happy Juneteenth and reconfirms our commitment to fighting for racial justice on the job!

Local 3 Opens 2024 Negotiations with Bloomingdale's
On March 13, RWDSU Local 3 bargaining committee members came to the bargaining table to open negotiations for our 2024 contract with Bloomingdale’s. Local 3 is united for a strong contract.
Take the 2024 Contract Survey by 2/23!
Dear Local 3 Members:
The Union contract between Local 3 United Storeworkers RWDSU/UFCW and Bloomingdale's /Macy's Inc. will expire on March 1, 2024 with a sixty (60) day extension to May 1st
The leadership of the Local anticipates that these negotiations will be the most difficult in the Union's eighty seven year history. Nevertheless, we are confident that "sticking together" will enable us to negotiate a contract that meets the needs of the Membership.
As we begin to prepare for our 2024 Union contract negotiations it is important that your voices are heard at the table. We will be launching our member survey and we encourage every member to participate. The survey will be open through Fri, February 23, 2024.
In Solidarity,
Local 3 President Shaun Kavanagh and Local 3 Secretary-Treasurer Brenda Moses

December 12th, 2022 Membership Meeting
Thanks to everyone who came out to our December membership meeting! Congrats to our four lucky winners of the holiday raffle: Elsa Horan, Rose Gregoire, Kenny Manuel, and Mark Holup!
In his report, Local 3 President Kavanagh said Local 3 has the best contract in the retail industry but it is up to an active and engaged membership to protect the rights and benefits the union has fought to achieve since our first contract was signed in 1938. We're bringing these words of wisdom into 2023 with us!

Local 3 Attends the 24th Quadrennial RWDSU Convention
The Local 3 United Storeworkers delegation attended the 24th Quadrennial Convention of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union held in Atlanta, GA, July 26- 29 2022. The RWDSU leadership team, President Stuart Appelbaum, Secretary-Treasurer Robert Layng Jr., and Recorder Joseph Dorismond were overwhelmingly re-elected to a four-year term. The bold organizing campaigns at Amazon, REI Inc., and Housing Works in New York City are inspiring workers throughout the world to stand up, have their voices heard, and claim their seats at the table. Members of the Local 3 delegation were assigned to work on important committees that set goals for the future to organize the unorganized, demand safer working conditions and stronger contracts, and continue to be leaders in fighting for social justice. We are STRONGER TOGETHER!
